A Google Business Profile is the listing that appears on Google Maps and on the right of search results when patients look for a doctor, clinic or diagnostic centre. It shows your rating, reviews, photos, timings, phone number and a booking link — the exact things patients compare before they choose. It is free to create, but it only works when it is complete, accurate, verified and kept up to date.
In this guide 8 sections
Ask any receptionist where new patients come from and you will hear “a relative told them” or “they saw the signboard”. Ask the patients themselves and many will add: “I checked on Google first.” That quick check — rating, photos, timings, a phone number that works — now decides who gets the patient.
A Google Business Profile (still often called Google My Business) is the free listing that controls what patients see in that moment. This guide explains what it is, why it matters for doctors and clinics in Bangladesh, and how to get it right.
How patients choose a doctor now
More than 82 million people in Bangladesh were online by the end of 2025, according to DataReportal. When one of them needs a test, a specialist or a hospital bed for a family member, the search usually goes like this:
- Search or ask AI — “diagnostic centre near me”, “gynaecologist in Uttara”, or a full question to ChatGPT or Gemini.
- Compare on the map — three or four names, each with a star rating, photos, distance and “open now”.
- Read the reviews — how many, how recent, and how the clinic replied.
- Call or book — whoever answers, or lets them book a serial online, gets the patient.
Your Google Business Profile is what appears in steps 2 to 4. If it is missing, unverified or out of date, you are not in the comparison at all.
What a complete profile shows patients
- Name and category — “Diagnostic centre”, “Pediatrician”, “Dental clinic”. The category decides which searches you appear in.
- Rating and reviews — the single strongest trust signal on the screen.
- Photos — the signboard from the street, reception, equipment, the doctor. Patients want to know what they will walk into.
- Opening hours — for each day, including holidays. Wrong hours mean a wasted trip and a one-star review.
- Phone, website and directions — one tap each.
- A booking link — so a patient can take a serial even when your line is busy or the chamber is closed.
- Posts and Q&A — health tips, new services, holiday timings, and answers to common questions.
Why reviews matter so much
Patients trust other patients. In a US survey of 1,438 patients, 77% said they read online reviews when choosing a new physician. A 2025 consumer survey by BrightLocal found that only 4% of people never read reviews of local businesses. And in BrightLocal’s earlier survey, 88% said they would use a business that replies to all of its reviews.
The lesson for a clinic: a steady flow of genuine reviews, each answered politely, is worth more than any advertisement. Our guide on how patient reviews grow a clinic explains how to get them ethically.
Seven mistakes that quietly lose patients
- No profile, or an unclaimed one that someone else created years ago, with an old number.
- The wrong category, so you never appear for the searches that matter.
- Different names and addresses on Google, Facebook, your signboard and directories — which confuses both patients and Google.
- No photos, or only a logo.
- Hours that are wrong for some chambers or days.
- Reviews left unanswered, especially negative ones.
- No way to book — patients who call after hours simply try the next clinic.
Being found in AI answers too
More patients now type whole questions — “Which hospital near Mohakhali has an ICU?” — into AI assistants. These tools can only include you if they can find clear, consistent information about you. A complete Google profile, a proper website with your services and doctors, and matching directory listings are the foundation for being mentioned — and described correctly.
Doing it the ethical way
Doctors and clinics in Bangladesh should follow the BMDC code of medical ethics. In practice that means:
- Facts only: qualifications, services, timings.
- No “best doctor” or promised results.
- Never buy, fake or reward reviews.
- No patient photos or names in posts.
A complete, honest profile does not need exaggeration. Accurate information, real photos and genuine reviews are what patients trust.
How Hospify Pro helps

Frequently asked questions
Is a Google Business Profile free?
Yes. Creating and verifying a Google Business Profile costs nothing. What takes time is setting it up properly — categories, services, timings for every chamber, good photos and a booking link — and keeping it accurate with posts and replies every month.
Can a doctor have a profile if they sit in someone else's chamber?
Where a doctor is the main practitioner at a location, they can usually have their own profile. For chambers inside a hospital or diagnostic centre, the centre's profile carries the address; the doctor's own website and booking page then show which days and times they sit there.
How long does verification take?
Google decides the method — video, phone, email or postcard — and it usually takes from a few days to two weeks. Until it is verified, the profile may not show publicly or may show limited information.
Why does my clinic not appear on Google Maps?
Common reasons are no profile at all, a profile that was never verified, the wrong category, an address that does not match other listings, or very few reviews compared with nearby clinics. A free profile check shows which of these applies to you.
Does a Google profile help with ChatGPT and other AI tools?
It helps. AI assistants build their answers about local services from information they can find and trust, and a complete, consistent Google profile, website and directory listings are among the clearest public sources about your facility.
