Eye clinic software with glasses prescription: what eye specialists in Bangladesh need
Quick answer

Eye clinic software records vision and eye pressure for each eye, front and back of the eye findings, and the glasses prescription (sphere, cylinder, axis, add, pupil distance and lens type) on the prescription screen. Eye drops are written for the right, left or both eyes, and the glasses prescription prints on its own page for the optician. Hospify Pro's eye chamber does this for Tk 999 a month$19 a month.

An eye specialist’s prescription is two documents in one. There is the medical prescription: diagnosis, eye drops, advice and follow-up. And there is the glasses prescription, which the patient takes to an optician who needs only the numbers, written clearly.

Most general doctor software has no place for either the eye examination or the glasses. Doctors end up writing the refraction by hand in the margin, or keeping a separate refraction register. Then a patient loses the paper, comes back a year later, and the old numbers are gone.

This guide explains what eye clinic and eye chamber software should do, how it changes a busy OPD, and what it costs.

What eye clinic software does

Good eye software adds an eye examination to each visit, with a column for each eye:

  1. Vision, unaided and with glasses.
  2. Eye pressure (IOP) in mmHg.
  3. Front of the eye and back of the eye (fundus) findings.
  4. The glasses prescription: sphere, cylinder and axis for each eye, reading add, pupil distance, lens type and use.
  5. Eye drops by eye, so the label reads right eye, left eye or both eyes.

On top of that come the usual chamber tools: serials, the patient’s history, prescriptions on your letterhead, reminders and collections.

The problems it solves

Handwritten refraction. A minus sign that looks like a dot, an axis of 18 or 180: small errors mean wrong glasses and an unhappy patient. Typed numbers, printed in a table with the signs shown, remove the guesswork for the optician.

Old prescriptions lost. “My last glasses were made here two years ago.” With each visit’s refraction saved, you can see the old power on screen and compare.

Drops in the wrong eye. A drop prescribed for the right eye only is easy to use in both. When the instruction prints “ডান চোখে” or “দুই চোখে” in Bangla, the patient and the family understand it.

Glaucoma patients who stop their drops. Glaucoma needs lifelong treatment. Follow-up reminders by SMS, and a clear record of the pressure at every visit, keep patients coming back.

Cataract surgery estimates. The patient wants to know the cost of the operation before deciding. A planned procedure with its price on the prescription answers that at once.

What to look for

1. Both eyes, side by side

The examination should have a right eye and a left eye column, in the order you examine. Vision should be picked from a list (6/6 to 6/60, CF, HM, PL, NPL) so the record is consistent and quick to fill.

2. A glasses prescription the optician can read

Sphere, cylinder and axis for each eye, the reading add, pupil distance, lens type (single vision, bifocal, progressive, reading only) and use (constant, distance only, near only). It should print in a clear table, and on a separate page for the optician, without the medicines.

3. Eye drops written for the right eye

Choosing right eye, left eye or both eyes should be part of adding the drop, and the timing should make sense for drops: every 6 hours, at bedtime, or continue for glaucoma drops, rather than “after meals”.

4. Procedures and plans with cost

A refraction test, tonometry, A-scan biometry or YAG laser done today should go on the bill automatically. Cataract surgery, planned for later, should print with its price as the treatment plan.

5. Advice in Bangla

Advice repeats itself in an eye OPD: how to use drops, care after cataract surgery, rest for the eyes when using a phone. Software that suggests ready advice in Bangla for the diagnosis saves time on every patient.

6. It keeps working offline

A power cut should not stop your OPD. Look for software that works offline and syncs later. See how Hospify Pro offline mode works.

An eye OPD, before and after

Before: The assistant checks vision on the chart and writes it on a slip. You examine the patient, write the refraction in a register and again on the prescription, and tell the patient where to get glasses. The assistant asks what to charge for the refraction. The patient loses the glasses paper before reaching the optician.

After: The patient books a serial online and the assistant takes the fee at the desk. You record vision, eye pressure, findings and the refraction on one card, choose bifocal and constant use, and mark the refraction test as done today. The bill is ready at the counter. The patient gets the prescription in Bangla and a separate glasses page for the optician, and the prescription also goes to their WhatsApp so it cannot be lost.

Frequently asked questions

What should eye clinic software record?

At least vision with and without glasses, eye pressure for each eye, front and back of the eye findings, the glasses prescription with sphere, cylinder, axis, reading add, pupil distance and lens type, and eye drops by eye. It should keep each visit so you can compare over time.

Can the glasses prescription print separately for the optician?

In Hospify Pro, yes. The glasses prescription prints on the main prescription and also on a clean page of its own, with the lens type, use, pupil distance and your signature, but without the medicines.

Which vision notation does Hospify Pro use?

Snellen in metres: 6/6 to 6/60, plus CF, HM, PL and NPL.

Can a hospital's eye department use it?

Yes. Set the eye department's workspace to Eye, and every doctor in that department gets the eye examination and glasses prescription on their screen. Other departments keep the general prescription.

How much does it cost?

Hospify Pro's eye chamber is on the Chamber plan: Tk 999 a month$19 a month, or Tk 9,990 a year$190 a year. SMS and WhatsApp credits are bought separately, from Tk 1from $0.015 per message.
